Abbie picked up her first racket at the tender age of two and she has not stopped since. With tennis in her blood, she has developed a unique style to her tennis and is well on her way to establishing her career in tennis.

Abbie is currently working her way towards a junior world ranking in the top 50 and is in the process of transitioning into the open tournaments and WTA world rankings

MY ASIA TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

After a solid training block in Sydney, we departed for Japan on our Asia tour on the 15th of October. It was an early start that day as we had to get to the airport three hours before our ight due to the industrial action dispute. After the long wait to go through customs we were able to jump on our light and the trip began!

We inally arrived at Osaka around Midday after a long trip which included a ive hour stopover at
Hong Kong international airport. After clearing customs and immigration we grabbed a bus to
our hotel which added another hour. It was great to eventually arrive to recover after the
exhausting lights and bus ride. As there was a WTA tournament being played before our
tournament began in Japan, we were able to watch quality matches and support a fellow
Australian, Sam Stosur (US Open winner) who unfortunately lost in the inals to Maria Bartoli.
Our irst training day was all about getting a feel for the courts and hitting lots of tennis balls. We
were very lucky as just when we inished our training session it started to rain heavily. Phew! This
tour consisted of playing in three tournaments. The irst tournament, I made the round of 16 and
in the singles I lost to Justine De Sutter from Belgium 7/6 7/6 after two good wins. I also made
quarters of the doubles, with Emily Fanning from NZ, losing to the eventual winners of the
tournament. We were able to tour around Osaka and go on a Ferris wheel located on top of a
shopping mall. That was pretty scary as we were so high but got an awesome view of downtown
Osaka.

The second tournament was in Chuncheon City, Korea where I made the semi-inals of the singles
going down to Sabina Sharipova 6/4 6/2.

On our way to our third tournament in Jeju-Do, Korea we could hear a yapping noise on the plane
that turned out to be a dog that someone was holding on their lap. Who knew you could have a
dog in the cabin! As the plane was taking of, the dog must have upset the person seated in front
as the passenger yanked his seatbelt of (as we were taking of) and started screaming and yelling
at the dog. I wasn't sure whether to be scared or to laugh! Looking back, it was funny watching
the air hostess stumbling down the aisle as the plane was almost vertical in take of to save the
dog.

I lost in the round of 16 in the singles. I was disappointed with the singles result at this
tournament. I was not at my physical best with a sore wrist after three long weeks of tennis
however on the upside I made it to the inals of the doubles. I would consider this trip as being
pretty successful as I have increased my Junior World Ranking from 81 to 57 in the world.
